Welcome to the Surrey PND Website
The aim of this website is to provide information, support and a means for mothers to contact other mothers who have experienced or suffered from post natal depression - via the discussion board (which also has a section for partners, family and friends). These needs were expressed by local mothers in a consultation .
Local mothers have played a key role in developing this website, based on their actual experiences of post natal depression (PND).
You or your partner are not alone; it is estimated that PND affects one in every ten mothers and is one of the most common conditions linked with childbirth. It can leave mothers feeling, amongst other things, depressed, anxious, unable to cope, tearful, irritable and exhausted. Unlike the 'baby blues' which tend to pass in a few days/weeks, symptoms of PND last longer. But it does get better. Seeking help and support is a vital step in the recovery process. This site has information about support you can get from health services in Surrey and from a variety of voluntary agencies that are listed in the links section.
Please note: Information on this website is NOT a substitute for assessment, diagnosis, advice, or treatment from a qualified health professional (such as a doctor, midwife, health visitor, community psychiatric nurse).
